Curriculum highlights
All grades at Knowledge Quest Academy (KQA) use a rigorous and challenging academic program known as the Core Knowledge® curriculum sequence. Developed by E.D. Hirsch, Jr., founder of the Core Knowledge Foundation, the curriculum provides content guidelines for children in grades K-8 to help them develop reading, writing, and critical thinking skills.
By instilling in students a rich vocabulary and broad knowledge base on which future instruction can build, broaden, and deepen, the Core Knowledge sequence helps to ensure that all children receive a knowledge base that will assure later educational success.
Specials and electives
The KQA curriculum also features "specials" for students in kindergarten through fifth grade and electives for students in grades six through eight, including:
- Art
- Chess
- Drama
- History
- Lego® robotics
- Music
- Physical education
- Science
- Sewing
- Spanish
- Technology
Extracurricular activities
KQA's diverse extracurricular lineup includes primary grade celebrations such as Pioneer Day and a Renaissance festival, as well as an Eco-Week for sixth graders. In addition, school-wide extracurricular activities include:

Our mission
KQA provides instruction on a broad variety of topics using the proven, content-rich Core Knowledge curriculum sequence, with an emphasis on a code of ethics. Small class sizes allow students to receive individual attention. Everyone associated with the school is encouraged to contribute: parents volunteer their time; teachers pursue their professional development; and students demonstrate intellectual improvement through regular assessments.
Governance
The KQA Board of Directors consists of seven elected parents who oversee and establish the educational and operational policies of the school. The board meets twice a month to discuss school operations and hear reports; all meetings are open to the public.
School accountability
The Knowledge Quest Academy School Accountability Committee provides the KQA community with information and data analysis, which is used to assess progress toward our mission and strategic plan. The committee is responsible for making recommendations to the administration and/or the KQA Board of Directors based on the assessment of the educational program, student achievement, and staff, parent, and student satisfaction.
Each year, the Accountability Committee meets monthly to monitor and solicit input aligned with the KQA mission and goals, and then issue an annual report to the board of directors and the school district. A copy of the school accountability report is available for the public as well.
