Staff Commitment

1. The staff of Knowledge Quest Academy (KQA) is committed to the daily application and reinforcement of the pillars of character. These nine pillars are emphasized throughout the curriculum and also through special activities and projects. They are as follows:

  • Responsibility
  • Respect
  • Cooperation
  • Family
  • Integrity
  • Love of country
  • Perseverance
  • Volunteerism
  • Self-control

2. KQA teachers from kindergarten through third grade have adopted the use of the Colorado Basis Literacy Act (CBLA), which was enacted in 1997 to ensure that by third grade all students have the literacy skills essential for success in school and life. The act requires local districts to identify students who are reading below grade level and to provide them with necessary reading intervention. Teachers are to review the following essential components of reading instruction:

  • Phonemic awareness
  • Phonics
  • Fluency
  • Vocabulary
  • Text comprehension

Reading programs and interventions that support students learning to read include the following characteristics in instruction:

  • Systematic, explicit instruction
  • That reflects student assessment data
  • And includes the five components of reading
